No Buy Time =)

So my friends, it seems like its that time again. I'm loaded to the max and if I buy anything else I feel like this huge cloud of guilt that is currently hanging over me is going to explode. Sure, I can continue along my merry way buying everything and anything that "I like TOTALLY have to have" but I want something that will cost more then one mere pay cheques worth of money. I'm getting braces lovelies - and until those damn metal brackets are on my crooked little teeth I'm not spending a single scent on anything that is NOT 100% without a doubt totally, fully, completely necessary. There is no grey area in here little babies.

My goal is to have my braces on my teeth on December 1st 2011(A.K.A. My BIRTHDAY! ...My God I'm getting old).

That gives me... About 7 weeks without a makeup/beauty related purchase. This will also give me the chance to use up a lot of the stuff I have that's almost gone.

This is so strange.. I'm about to do a very serious no buy and I'm super excited! Which leads me to my next point.

I'm going to treat myself to a birthday gift shortly after my braces are on =) A.K.A. When my no buy is officially over!

I'm planning on grabbing myself the Smashbox Holiday 2011 set! Hopefully its still kicking around come time for my Birthday! lol

Here's how it looks:

Isn't is beautiful? LOOK AT IT... I WANT IT NOOOOW.. But I'm going to control the crazy inside me haha.. This set includes: 15 eye shadows, 5 cream eye liners, Mini Photo Finish Lid Primer & Get the Look cards. In addition to this (or in place of, depending whats avliable) I'm also hoping to get my grubby little hands on both the Nars eye shadow duo in Mandchourie (Photo curtosy of Makeupandbeautyblog) and Nars larger than life eyeliner Via Veneto.

Also, with this no buy thing now commencing, I can start to push trough the back log of things I have yet to swatch/review/compare. So that in itself is pretty exciting.

The last unneeded beauty thing I bought, are a few Sigma brushes I picked up because I won (I WON!) a polyvore contest that Katherine at Handmade Reviews was putting on. I was supposed to win some hair products, but unfortunately the company wouldn't ship them to Canada. As a consolation prize she sent me a $25 Sigma gift card.. So I spent it ASAP lol and I went a tad over the $25. A few weeks previous to me winning the contest I placed a Sigma order so I'm expecting two packages from them (wo0t!)

..So pretty much expect a Sigma review soon!
Let the No Buy commence.... NOW!

Wish me luck!

No Buy Break Up

This is how it all went down...

Steph: "Hey No Buy, I don't think I can do this any more. Believe me. It's not you - it's me. No wait, it is you. you suck. BIG TIME. It's not that I don't have the will power to continue on with you but, I'm starting to become blind to why I started this thing, I don't like you - you don't like me so who are we really kidding here..?"

No Buy (a.k.a. Steph's financial conscience): "I knew it, just like everyone else said you wouldn't be able to stick it out with me.. You didn't even last a week".

Steph: "Well to be totally honest I did last a week. You should know that. I could stick it out with you, but I'm choosing not to. Rather than deprive myself for 6 months, I'm going to plan out purchases & sleep on things. No more splurging uncontrollably. I'm going to be responsible. I'm teaching myself responsibility. No buys will not work for me. All the money I initially save will be spent faster than it was saved, obviously and after that money is gone I'll be in the same boat. So, so long Mr. No-Buy, your novelty wore off more quickly than anyone could have imagined".

Haha, I hope you all enjoyed my little skit.

You heard it. I quit. My boyfriend thinks this "no buy" thing is stupid and I'm around him almost 24/7 so in regards to me being on a make up no buy, he's a shit ass support system - which works out for me because I get to buy stuff again... Geeze hes a keeper! =)

Stay tuned for my first CherryCulture Haul + Review!

Shopping Hiatus.. I'm Embarking on a Make Up No Buy

So I've always been fully against chicks (or dudes) going on no buys (a make up no buy anyways) I just thought it was so pointless, like, why should someone deprive them self of something they want? It just never made sense to me. I figured that anyone who went on a no buy would end up saving a ton of money in the short term but then blow it all on make up anyways once its over.

Recently I've been out of control make up wise, sure I can carry on spending my money - I'm not hurting anyone, its not like I have a mortgage or a child to support. But I want to have some money for bigger things I want to do later on like going to Vegas and to Cuba, you know, stuff like that.

So I'm not going to dick around here. I'm not going to prep myself with a few short pissy no buys. I'm in this thing for the long haul baby! I'm kicking this thing until December 1 2011 (a.k.a. My birthday)  Now, don't expect swatches and reviews to stop a flowin' on here, I've got enough make up to last for 6 months worth of posts. I promise. I'm actually quite back logged I just keep reviewing and swatching the new stuff I buy and the older stuff I have is just sitting around waiting for its time in the spot light.

Anyways as I progress through this, I'm going to try and share some little tips, tricks and no buy strategies. I told my parents that I'm doing this no buy thing the long short and they don't think I'll make it through this at all. But I'll prove them wrong.

So I'm going to put a few rules in place.

NO BUY RULES

1) I will not buy any piece of makeup that does not replace an existing product that I already own. So I'm allowed to buy new top/base coats of nail polishes when my current ones run out or when I'm out of primer/foundation I can buy replacements. This also applies to concealers, eye primers and stuff like that.

2) I'm allowed to buy maintenance products like: My three step face cleansing, toning moisturizing system & SPF face stuff. I'm also allowed to buy shampoos, body wash, toothpaste, razors, shave gel, deodorant self tanners, hair products and etc when they run out.

3) STAY AWAY FROM SEPHORA AND MAC UNLESS ITS COMPLETELY NECESSARY lol

ALSO - I know that this no buy will cause problems for my plans of a massive Montreal Inglot haul so rather then lying to all of you and just not telling you about my purchases I'm going to give myself a limit I must either meet or stay below. I haven't decided yet but I'm thinking about somewhere in the neighborhood of $100-$150

I'm posting this to make you all aware of what I'm doing. I want to stay committed to this. I NEED to. Well I don't NEED to but I really want to see this thing through and I know I will. I want to prove my parents wrong lmao =)

MAC 150                                 MAC 134

Also, one last thing I'm going to address is my make up prize I will receive after I complete this massive mission: I'm going to buy myself a MAC 134 and maybe a MAC 150. I'm so excited, they'll be like little victory gifts AND birthday presents to myself!

I entered this no buy by purchasing my last 'treat' item.. But more on that later =)
